Registering your address with the city is mandatory for all residents in all of Germany. It should be done within 7-14 days of moving into your apartment or room.

You will receive a written confirmation that you are a resident of Regensburg (Anmeldebest?tigung). It is needed f.ex. to open a bank account and register your children for school.

In case you live outside of the city limits, please contact the Welcome Center to find out at which office you should register your address and apply for a residence permit. If you need help with filling in these forms, please contact us.

Please note: You will receive important mail such as your Tax-ID Number (Steuer-ID Nummer) and a letter from the ARD/ZDF broadcasting service after registering your address. Be sure your name is on your mailbox and check it regularly for important mail.

Necessary documents:

  • Registration form;
  • Confirmation of housing (Wohnungsgeberbescheinigung) completed and signed by the landlord or landlady
  • Passport and, if necessary, visa or residence permit

Moving within Regensburg

When you move inside of Germany or even Regensburg, you have to also re-register your address at the City of Regensburg (or in your new place). This should ideally be done one week before or 1-2 weeks after your move. Earlier than one week prior to moving is not possible!

You can also send the completed re-registration forms to the responsible authority by e-mail.

Once you have successfully registered your new address at the Citizes' or Foreigners' Office, they will notify ARD/ZDF Beitragsservice (TV and radio broadcasting fee), who will then send you a letter. Make sure you check your mailbox regularly (make sure your name is on the mailbox).

Also inform your contact person in HR about your new address and of course all other places where you have given your address (for example your bank, health insurance, etc.).

 Necessary documents:

  • Re-registration form;
  • Confirmation of housing (Wohnungsgeberbescheinigung) completed and signed by the landlord or landlady
  • Passport and, if necessary, visa or residence permit

Before you leave Germany, you need to deregister yourself with the Citizens' or Foreigners' Office. This process is called "Abmeldung". To do it, you have to fill in the deregistration form and bring it to the responsible institution. It can be done 5 days before your departure at the earliest. After your deregistration, you will receive a deregistration confirmation (Abmeldebest?tigung). You need this form to deregister from the broadcasting authorities.
