Sustainability at the UR

At the University of Regensburg, sustainability is defined as a central focus, as reflected in the University Development Plan and the University Agreement 2023-2027. Sustainability provides us with guidance and is a principle of action that views ecological sustainability as the basis for a sustainable social and economic order. The foundation for this is the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Our Understanding of Sustainability

The University of Regensburg (UR) has a special social responsibility to make a significant contribution to addressing major future challenges within and from its own structures and fields of activity. This can only be achieved if sustainable development is understood as a university-wide task and the participation and involvement of all members of the university is supported, promoted, and valued.

With its Sustainability Strategy 2023–2027, the UR has set itself the goal of substantially and systematically strengthening sustainability in the areas of research, teaching, (student) engagement, campus operations, digitalization, transfer, and governance.

In addition to very concrete, measurable objectives in the area of ??climate protection, we as stakeholders strive to place the topic even more firmly at the forefront of the UR's focus, both through discourse and through the implementation of various (event) formats, and to address it holistically. All members of the university can make a significant contribution to the implementation of sustainability measures and contribute to the discourse on sustainability.
