Dr Kurt Hellmich Foundation
The foundation aims to promote ecumenical theology. It was set up by Dr Hellmich's surviving wife, Mathilde Hellmich, in 1983 to continue her husband's ecumenical efforts.
The dependent foundation pursues its purpose by awarding prizes for academic work in the field of ecumenical theology that has been submitted as a habilitation or dissertation to a theological faculty at a German university. Outstanding diploma or admission theses submitted to these faculties can also be considered for the awarding of prizes.
The prizes are awarded by the Dean of the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Regensburg based on the assessment of a jury.
Wolfgang and Theresa Jepsen Foundation
Wolfgang and Theresa Jepsen Foundation
The Wolfgang und Theresa Jepsen Foundation was established in 2012 with the purpose of promoting science and research, particularly in the fields of mechanical engineering, computer scientists, electrical engineering and information technology. This is to be achieved in particular by awarding research contracts and funding for the realisation of research projects, especially at the University of Applied Sciences and the University of Regensburg, as well as by awarding scholarships.
Volker Nechleba Foundation
The Volker Nechleba Foundation was established in 1984 at the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Regensburg by the married couple Lothar and Brigitte Nechleba. The reason for the foundation is to perpetuate the memory of their son Volker, who died at a very young age and who was extraordinarily preoccupied with questions about the meaning of life and the realisation of faith. The purpose of the foundation is to promote the theology of Christian spirituality. According to the will of the founders, the foundation serves in particular to prepare a new edition of the works of Johann Michael Sailer. His publications had a significant influence on the theology of spirituality in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The new digital edition is intended to provide students and researchers with contemporary access to the ideas of Johann Michael Sailer. In addition, the foundation supports events organised under the responsibility of a professor of catholic theology at the University of Regensburg; the beneficiaries of the foundation are exclusively students of the University of Regensburg (regardless of denomination).
A board of trustees, composed as follows, decides on the funding:
- Prof Dr Andreas Merkt, Chair of Historical Theology (in charge)
- the Dean of the Faculty of Catholic Theology
- Prof Dr Harald Buchinger, Chair of Liturgics
- Prof Dr Peter Scheuchenpflug, lecturer for special tasks at the Chair of Religious Education and Didactics of Religious Education (Sailer project)
Applications for funding can only be submitted by professors from the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Regensburg. These must be submitted to the lead member of the Board of Trustees, stating the type, time and place of the event, the course, names, addresses, student numbers and bank details of the participants and the costs per participant.
Edith Patzig Foundation

Dr Katharina Sailer - Foundation
The University of Regensburg can award prizes and scholarships from the Dr Katharina Sailer Foundation to honour or promote outstanding academic work and achievements, primarily in the field of British studies and the didactics of the English language.
The dependent foundation was set up by Dr Boris Tschoban in his will in memory of Dr Katharina Sailer, a friend of the Tschoban family and lecturer in English language teaching at the Regensburg University of Education.
The first prizes were awarded in 1983. Prizes or scholarships are to be awarded from the foundation's assets on 4 February of each year, the anniversary of Dr Katharina Sailer's death. These are awarded by the President of the University of Regensburg on the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Languages, Literature, and Cultures. Beneficiaries of the foundation can only be students of the University of Regensburg.
