Access, application and enrolment

How do I apply to university?

  1. You need a university entrance qualification for the degree programme.
  2. Start of studies: Not all degree programmes start in the summer and winter semesters. Therefore, please check whether the desired degree programme is offered in the corresponding semester.
  3. Application: For degree programmes with restricted admission, you must apply either to www.hochschulstart.de (German version only)  or directly to the University of Regensburg; for aptitude tests/aptitude assessment procedures or aptitude procedures, you must apply directly to the respective institute. 
    Persons with foreign certificates must apply for all degree types and all degree programmes. You can find more information on the International Office website.
  4. Aptitude test / aptitude assessment procedure: For some degree programmes, a preliminary check is carried out to determine whether you meet the artistic, linguistic or physical requirements for admission to a degree programme (e.g. art, sport, etc.).
  5. Eligibility Test: The prerequisite for admission to a Master's degree programme is passing an eligibility test. The requirements vary depending on the degree programme. Further information can be found on the pages of the respective faculty or institute.
  6. Pre-registration procedure: For some degree programmes, pre-registration is required by the deadline. Only those who register within the deadline will be offered a place on the programme. Confirmation of pre-registration must be submitted with the enrolment application via the university's application portal. There you must submit an application for your desired degree programme in order to take part in the pre-registration procedure.
  7. Enrolment: If you fulfil all the above requirements, you can enrol at the University of Regensburg within the deadlines.
