How do you get to Regensburg?

We prepare everything for your stay so that we can welcome you to Regensburg as warmly and efficiently as possible on your arrival days. You will receive detailed information about your arrival from the International Office several weeks before your arrival via email.

Please support us in our efforts and take note of our official arrival days when planning your trip.  

Important information:

Students who arrive in Regensburg before the official arrival days must organize their own accommodation in a hostel, hotel, or vacation apartment, as the rooms in the dormitories are not yet ready for occupancy.
Students who arrive in Regensburg after the arrival days will miss the orientation and thus important information for their exchange stay in Regensburg. Therefore, please make sure that you arrive on the arrival days. 

Arrival in Regensburg

You can reach Regensburg by train, bus, car, or plane. The nearest airport is in Munich. However, you can also travel via Nuremberg or Frankfurt, as there are train connections to Regensburg from both airports.

What documents do you need to have ready for check-in at the International Office?

  • Passport or identity card (EU citizens)
  • Proof of insurance (EHIC, GHIC, statutory or private health insurance)
  • Confirmation of arrival (students who come to Regensburg as part of the ERASMUS+ programme usually require a confirmation of arrival, which must be signed by the International Office of the University of Regensburg and then forwarded to the home university. Please enquire with the coordinator of your home university whether there is a template for the document and bring it with you to Regensburg)
  • Tax identification number from your home country (necessary if students have to open a bank account in Germany)

What else should you bring with you to Regensburg?

  • Your notebook / laptop
  • Your smartphone
  • if necessary, an adapter for electronics (the voltage in Germany is 230 volts)
  • some cash for the journey
  • important documents such as a vaccination card
  • medication if necessary
