Please check the website of the Federal Foreign Office (external link, opens in a new window) to find out whether you require a visa to enter Germany. If you require a visa, apply for one in good time before the start of your traineeship (usually several months in advance).
Students who are allowed to enter Germany without a visa may have to apply for a German residence permit after their arrival.
Trainees are required to register their place of residence with the Foreigners' Office within two weeks of arrival.
Approval of Traineeships by the Federal Employment Agency:
Trainees with non-EU nationality may require a permit from the Federal Employment Agency in order to complete the traineeship.
