Nomination Deadlines and Application Period
Nomination of Exchange Students by the Partner Universities:
By 1 May at the latest for the winter semester
By 1 November at the latest for the summer semester
Submission of application documents by the exchange students:
1. April to 15 May for the winter semester
1. September to 15 November for the summer semester
Application Procedure
1. Application at Your Home University
Firstly, apply to your home university for an exchange semester/year. Please contact the International Office at your home university directly to find out about the application process and deadlines.
2. Nomination by the Partner University
As soon as you have successfully completed the application process at your home university, your home university will inform the University of Regensburg of the names of the selected students (= nomination). We will then send you all the important information about the application process for an exchange programme at the University of Regensburg.
3. Submitting your Application Documents
Please complete our online application form (external link, opens in a new window).
Please note that we can only consider your application if all documents have been received in full. It is essential that you adhere to the application deadlines.
4. Information Package
Around mid-June or mid-December, you will receive an information package from us by e-mail containing the following documents:
- Letter of admission from the University of Regensburg
- Guide with important information about your exchange programme
- Room offer for a room in a hall of residence with declaration of acceptance
- Participants in the intensive language course will also receive: Declaration of acceptance for the language course
Information on the fees to be paid
5. Finalizing Your Application
Once you have completed the following steps within the specified deadline, your application is complete:
- Return the following documents to international.accommodation(at)ur.de:
- Declaration of acceptance for a room in a hall of residence (if applicable)
- Declaration of acceptance for the intensive language course (if applicable)
- Transfer of the fees

Step 1
Fill in the online application form (external link, opens in a new window).
Attention:
You will first be redirected to a registration page. There you can create a user account for the online application form. Once you have successfully registered, you can access the form and start your application. You can save your application at any time and continue at a later date.
Please use a computer or laptop/notebook to complete the form, as there may unfortunately be compatibility issues with tablets or smartphones.
Please prepare the following documents as you will need to upload them to the online application form:
- Scan of your passport/ID card (pdf)
- Profile photo for your Regensburg student ID card (jpg)
- Proof of valid health insurance (pdf)
- Proof of language proficiency (not older than 2 years at the time of application) (pdf)
- Transcript of Records (pdf)
Step 2
Please submit a Learning Agreement with your provisional course selection to us by 15 December or 15 June:
Students in the ERASMUS+ programme:
- Online learning agreement (OLA) (alternatively, you can also send the learning agreement as a PDF or Word document by e-mail to international.exchange-student(at)ur.de)
Students of another partnership agreement:
- Please complete the learning agreement for overseas students
Language Skills
? Courses that are taught in German:
In order to follow courses taught in German, exchange students need German language skills at a good to very good level B2 (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
For the following faculties / institutes you need the following language levels at the beginning of your exchange programme:

? Courses offered by the Department of German as a Foreign Language
Students who would like to improve their German and only wish to take courses offered by the Department of German as a Foreign Language (no courses offered by the Institute of German Language and Literature) do not need any previous knowledge of German.
? Courses that are taught in English
To follow courses taught in English, exchange students need English language skills at a good to very good level B2 (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
For the following faculties / institutes you need the following language levels at the beginning of your exchange programme:

? Which Language Certificates are Accepted?
All official language certificates are accepted for applications as part of an exchange programme, e.g:
German language certificates (equivalent to B2) | English language certificates (equivalent to B2) |

If you do not have any of the above certificates, UR will also accept confirmation of your language proficiency from your home university.
Please note: These regulations only apply to the application documents for exchange students The language certificate must not be older than 2 years at the time of application.
Letter of Admission
Please give us some time to review and process your application documents.
If your application is accepted, we will send you a letter of admission for your exchange programme in Regensburg around mid-June (for the winter semester) or mid-December (for the summer semester). This will be sent to you digitally by e-mail and also by post.
If you require a visa for your stay, please apply for one immediately after receiving your letter of admission at a German diplomatic mission in your home country. It may take weeks or even months before you receive your visa.
