Broadcasting Fee (GEZ)

In Germany, the Broadcasting Fee (GEZ) is used to finance the public media and makes them less dependent on advertising and state subsidies. It must be paid by every household, regardless of whether or not you own radio or tv equipment.

After registering your address with the Residence' or Foreigners' Office, you will receive a letter regarding the Broadcasting Fee "Beitragsservice von ARD, ZDF und Deutschlandradio". Check your letterbox regularly and make sure that your name is on the letterbox. You can register for the Broadcasting Fee both with the reply to the letter and online.

Even after changing/re-registering your address with the Residence' or Foreigners' Office, you will receive another letter about the Broadcasting Fee. You must re-register your new address with the Broadcasting Authorities. You can do this either by replying to the letter or online.

Before you leave Germany and after you have deregistered with the City of Regensburg, you must also deregister with the Broadcasting Authorities in order to avoid additional costs. Therefore, submit the deregistration confirmation from the Residence' or Foreigners' Office to the Broadcasting Authorities. You can do this online on the Broadcasting website.
