Compensation for disadvantages in examination situations can be organised as follows:
- Time extension for written or oral examinations
Basic consideration: Do you actually need more time or is it actually additional rest breaks that you need during the exam period?
- Utilisation of rest breaks during the exam
Basic consideration: From a medical point of view, is it more advisable to take one longer break or is it several shorter ones that are needed?
- Change of examination format (e.g. written instead of oral examination)
- Use of personal aids and/or technical aids to compensate for the impairment (e.g. scribes or readers, sign language interpreters)
Important: The procurement of these aids/aids is the responsibility of the student. Due to the sometimes very long processing times, please always apply as early as possible and in advance to the responsible funding organisation for the assumption of costs for necessary technical aids and personal aids! When using aids, it is strongly recommended that you inform the examiners/lecturers concerned at an early stage and familiarise them with any special technical features that may need to be taken into account.
- Equalising examination periods (splitting)
IMPORTANT:
Applications for compensation for disadvantages - as far as the area of responsibility of the University of Regensburg is concerned - must always be submitted via the responsible examination secretariat of the respective subject for forwarding to the chairperson of the examination board in the respective subject. They must always be submitted in writing and on time (see subsection "Procedure").
In the case of responsibilities outside the University of Regensburg, e.g. for state examinations, please contact the relevant offices directly to clarify deadlines, documents to be submitted and any special requirements! For trainee teachers, there is an extra information sheet (external link, opens in a new window) on the homepage of the examination administration of the University of Regensburg on how to apply for compensation for disadvantages in state examinations. Please pay close attention to the requirements listed there!
Always react immediately to any emerging problems during your studies and not only after you have failed to complete an academic achievement on time or in the prescribed form! If a prescribed academic achievement is deemed not to have been completed within the specified deadline without prior application, there is no possibility of making subsequent changes. The compensation for disadvantages can therefore only have an effect for the future, but cannot retroactively influence a past and completed event! You should therefore make use of the counselling services offered by the contact persons listed here at an early stage!
