More security during registration: MFA is coming
In order to better protect your data, the university is gradually introducing multi-factor authentication (MFA). This means that you will need a second confirmation in addition to your password when logging in - e.g. via an app.
This second factor when logging in will significantly reduce the risk of identity theft and unauthorised access to university systems.
From October 2025, VPN access will only be possible with MFA.

How to prepare yourself
- Set up MFA (onboarding)
Only possible on site from the campus network.
? Go to: https://aka.ms/mfasetup
? Log in with your university account (e.g. vip12345@ads.uni-regensburg.de)
? Ideally, store two methods (e.g. app + telephone) - overview of MFA methods
? To our instructions - Test MFA
? Login test: https://mfa-test.app.uni-regensburg.de
? If the login works, everything is set up correctly! - Try out VPN with MFA
? Only the VPN configuration needs to be adjusted for this
? You can find information on configuration in our instructions
