Brief description of the project
What is the goal? The Sustainability Week (NaWo) aims to take sustainability out of its niche and bring it into the centre of society. Together with local initiatives, companies and people from the world of science, we spend a week showing what sustainability means in everyday life, the environment, society and the economy. The week offers exciting lectures, practical activities such as clothes swaps or cookery workshops and much more. The main aim is to provide food for thought, stimulate dialogue and make commitment visible.
When does it take place? The Sustainability Week takes place every year in summer. Every two years, a Sustainability Mile is also organised on the Citizens' Festival (external link, opens in a new window) weekend as an extension of the Sustainability Week.
Background:
2019: The idea of "Sustainability Week" was launched in mid-2019 to bring the relevance of the topic to universities. The first three organisers got to know each other at an inspiring workshop organised by Transition Regensburg e.V., where the idea was turned into a concept. Two months later, the first #URweekforfuture took place after a great deal of organisational effort and was a great initial success for the three of them.
However, in order for this to develop into a long-term and sustainable impact, it was important not to remain just the three of them. Many new members were recruited and the Sustainability Network was born.
2025: What began on the campus of the University of Regensburg has now grown into a city-wide week of events with several cooperation partners. The theme week is based on the 17 sustainability goals of the 2030 Agenda (external link, opens in a new window) and integrates them into a variety of events throughout the city. 2025 was the 5th anniversary of the Sustainability Week.
