Brief description of the project
What is the goal? With the Campus Clean-Up, we want to rid the university and OTH grounds of litter, especially plastic. On the one hand, because a clean campus area is simply more beautiful, but above all to reduce the waste load and feed recyclable material into the recycling cycle. This protects the campus as a habitat for insects, birds, and our wild rabbits.
When? Every year during the European Week for Waste Reduction. This year, it will take place from 22 to 30 November with a focus on avoiding electronic waste.
Participants:
- Green Offices of OTH Regensburg & UR
- Sustainability Working Group of the UB
- Sustainability division of the UR student representatives
- Transport & Services specialist group

Last clean-up

The most curious find of the day was a bent fork. Crown corks were also collected, which were then donated to the Kronkorken e.V. (external link, opens in a new window) organisation.
Up to 15 kg of waste
At the last event on 19 November 2024, 25 participants made up of students, staff and lecturers collected a total of up to 15 kg of waste!

What is the European Week for Waste Reduction?
That's what it's all about
Waste avoidance is resource and climate protection. This is because the manufacture of many products consumes a lot of resources and produces emissions. For this reason everyday objects should be consumed consciously, used for as long as possible and, ideally, recycled at the end of their useful life. This is what the three R's of the European Waste Prevention Week stand for: Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.
The week of action also stands for the fact that tens of thousands of people campaign for waste prevention at the same time every year in November. Every action, no matter how small, contributes to greater resource conservation and can set an example for others.
