Recognitions

of externally acquired study and examination achievements

For the recognition of study and examination achievements acquired at another university and/or another degree programme, an application for recognition must be completed and a proof of achievement with a grade (e.g. transcript, certificate, certificate), if applicable, as well as a detailed description of the course that was acquired externally (e.g. module catalogue), with content, hours or semester hours per week and credit points, must be submitted.

If you have any questions, please contact the Biology Student Advisory Service. link

Applications for the recognition of externally acquired credits can be found on the pages of the Biology Examination Office - link! (external link, opens in a new window)

Procedure:

  1. Fill out the recognition form:
    • Check the module catalogue of the University of Regensburg to see whether the course that was acquired externally is comparable to the course at the University of Regensburg. Compare the course in the module catalogue BSc Biology or MSc Biology.
    • Enter a specific recognition proposal in the recognition form (dowlnload see above) by assigning the credits already earned to a specific course (module position) at the University of Regensburg. Please pay attention to the respective scope of the courses (ECTS) and the respective content.
  2. Have the course checked by the responsible lecturer:
    • Submit the recognition form, together with a proof of performance with a grade if applicable (e.g. transcript, certificate, certificate), as well as a detailed description of the course that was acquired externally (e.g. module catalogue), with a description of the content, hours or semester hours per week and credit points, to the responsible teacher named in the recognition form.
    • !!! Please be sure to state the page number in the document on which the description of the course can be found in the recognition form.
    • The teacher will check the possibility of recognition and sign the form in the appropriate place. If necessary, an e-mail with the teacher's confirmation that the event can be recognised is sufficient as a signature. In this case, please ask the teacher to forward the e-mail to the Examinations Office.
  3. Placement in a higher semester
    • If a placement in a higher semester is required, please send the completed recognition form with the confirmations of the respective teachers as well as the proof of performance of the externally acquired achievements to the degree programme coordinator Elisabeth Brunner (elisabeth.brunner@ur.de).
    • You will then receive a letter with the corresponding classification, which you must present to the Registrar's Office when enrolling on the BSc or MSc Biology programme.
    • You will be placed in a higher semester for every 30 CP. If, for example, 30 credit points are achieved through recognition, you will be placed in the 2nd semester, if 60 credit points are achieved, you will be placed in the 3rd semester and so on.
    • Please note: in the BSc Biology programme, you can only start in the 1st semester in the winter semester. If you would like to start the BSc in the summer semester, you must be placed in at least the 2nd semester.
  4. Recording recognised credits in Flexnow
    • As soon as you are enrolled in the BSc or MSc in Biology, submit the completed recognition form with the confirmations of the respective teachers and the proof of achievement of the externally acquired achievements to the Biology Examination Office or send it by e-mail. The credits in the BSc or MSc Biology programme will be recorded there.

acquired at the University of Regensburg

When changing from a teaching degree in Biology, BSc Biochemistry or BSc Chemistry to the BSc Biology, the identical (or in the case of BSc Biochemistry or Chemistry similar) courses can be recognised. To do this, simply tick the relevant courses to be recognised in the equivalence list. However, the course can also be taken again in the BSc Biology if you wish to improve your grade. Please note that an application for recognition can only be submitted once and that subsequent recognition is not possible once an examination has been taken.

Procedure:

  1. Fill inthe equivalence list (download see below).
  2. If a placement in a higher semester is required, send the completed equivalence list with the proof of achievement from the teaching degree or BSc Biochemistry or Chemistry to the degree programme coordinator Elisabeth Brunner by e-mail (elisabeth.brunner@ur.de). You will then receive a letter with the corresponding classification, which you must present to the Registrar's Office when transferring to the BSc Biology programme. You will be placed in a higher semester for every 30 CP. If, for example, 30 credit points are achieved through recognition, you will be placed in the 2nd semester, if 60 credit points are achieved, you will be placed in the 3rd semester and so on.
  3. As soon as you are enrolled in the BSc Biology programme, submit the completed equivalence list together with the proof of achievement from the teaching degree or BSc Biochemistry or Chemistry to the Biology Examination Office or send it by e-mail. The credits in the BSc Biology programme will be recorded there.

Equivalence lists can be found on the pages of the Biology Examination Office - link! (external link, opens in a new window)

Recognitions in the teaching degree programme Biology

Recognition forms for a change to a teacher training program can be found on the pages of the teacher training programs - link!

Please note:

  • An application for credit transfer for work completed before commencement of the degree programme can only be submitted once, within the first semester after commencement of the degree programme.
  • Once an examination has been taken, subsequent credit transfer is excluded (PO: § 13, para. 4). This means that examinations that have been taken once in the BSc/MSc Biology degree programme at the University of Regensburg can no longer be replaced by recognition.
  • A grade is required for recognition of graded achievements in the BSc Biology programme. If, at the student's request, a non-graded achievement is to be recognised for a graded achievement, the achievement will be given a grade of 4.
  • If the average of several grades results in a grade value that is excluded from the examination regulations, this will be rounded up or down to the nearest grade value. If the average is exactly in the middle of two grade values, the better grade is rounded up. (possible grades: 1; 1.3; 1.7; 2; 2.3; 2.7; 3; 3.3; 3.7; 4)
