in the Bachelor of Biology programme

A total of two project internships must be completed.

Registration

  • Registration takes place in the course catalog in SPUR (BSc Biology - Project internships - Registration). SPUR
  • The registration deadline for project internships in the winter semester is 30 September.
  • The registration deadline for project internships in the summer semester is 31 January. in SPUR in the winter semester before.

Please note: Even if a project internship is not completed until the summer semester, it is still possible to complete the degree programme by the end of the 6th semester. It is therefore not necessary to complete both internships in the 5th semester.

Admission requirements for the project internships

Compulsory: Modules BIO-BSc-01 to 05 (Bio 1st/2nd semester), BIO-BSc-11 (Maths), BIO-BSc-12 (Physics) and BIO-BSc-14 to 16 (inorganic chemistry, OC in 1st/2nd semester).

Please note! Even if the admission requirements are met, this is no guarantee of a place. For practical courses in which there are more applications than available places, the selection is usually based on the number of written exams still missing.

Prioritisation

Even if you only have to complete 1 or 2 project placements, please indicate 5 project placements, prioritising 1 - 5. After checking the admission requirements, the participants will be selected in such a way that, as far as possible, all students will have access to the chosen internships according to the respective priority. Please also indicate if you only have to complete 1 internship per semester.

Confirmation of the internships

After the end of the registration period, you will receive an e-mail from the respective teacher in whose project internship you have been accepted around mid-October (WS) or the end of February (SS). For internships with "time by arrangement", the teacher will arrange a date for the internship with you. If you may not need the place, please inform the teacher.

As soon as participation in a project internship is certain, please also register in FlexNow!

Cancellation of a work placement

Cancellation of an internship is possible up to one week before the start of the internship without giving reasons (by e-mail to the responsible teacher). Failure to cancel within the deadline will result in a failure to attend the internship being recorded in Flexnow. In the event of cancellation due to illness, a medical certificate must be presented.

Constrained elective courses

(A) if the admission thesis is completed in the Department of Biology:

a research-orientated internship (3 weeks) is completed in preparation for the admission thesis. Please discuss with the supervisor of the admission thesis that this will be extended by 3 weeks and that the research-oriented internship must be booked in FlexNow. Please contact the degree programme coordinator Elisabeth Brunner for booking in FlexNow, as the examination offer for the supervisor must be created in FlexNow.

If you are still interested in a further project internship in the field of biology (see below), this can be taken, provided there are places available. In this case, the admission project does not have to be extended by 3 weeks.

(B) If the admission project is completed in the chemistry or physicists department or in one of the didactics departments (biology, chemistry or physics didactics) , a project internship from a biology field must be selected. See the course catalogues in SPUR!

Specification of priorities

For the project internship in the constrained elective courses, please select 4 project internships, stating priorities 1 - 4. Students are selected in such a way that, as far as possible, all students have access to the chosen internships according to the respective priority.

Confirmation of the project internships

After the end of the registration period, you will receive an e-mail from the respective teacher in whose project internship you have been accepted around mid-October (winter semester) or end of February (summer semester). For internships with "time by arrangement", the teacher will arrange a date for the internship with you. If you may not need the place, please inform the teacher.

Special regulation from WS 23/24 !!!

A seminar or special topics lecture from the field of ecology, zoology or botany can be taken as a substitute for a project internship. Regardless of the credit points you receive for this seminar or special topics lecture, you only have to take one course. For example, a seminar is credited with 2 CP instead of the project internship in Flexnow.

Seminars can be found in the course catalog (SPUR) in the Bachelor of Biology module catalogue in module BIO-BSC-21 - Key competencies, and lectures in module BIO-BSC-23 - Specialisation module.

If you would like to take advantage of this special arrangement, please write an e-mail to the Biology programme coordinator (elisabeth.brunner@ur.de) and indicate which seminar or lecture you would like to take as a substitute for the project internship. The course will then be activated for registration in Flexnow.
