In the Bachelor's degree programme in Biology, career-oriented courses can be completed from the 1st semester onwards. A total of 3 CP is required for first-year students before WS 24/25 and 2 CP for first-year students from WS 24/25 onwards. Several courses with a total of at least 3 or 2 CP can be completed.

A total of 6 ECTS credits are requiredfor the Master's degree programme in Biology. Several courses with a total of at least 6 CP can be completed.

For 1 CP, a course must last at least 4 hours. Several courses of shorter duration can also be recognised together with a total of at least 4 hours.

Recognition and booking: Please have a confirmation of attendance issued for the respective courses, stating the duration, and send it to the degree programme coordinator (elisabeth.brunner@ur.de) for booking in Flexnow. For courses offered by the faculty (e.g. career day; GIS course), registration in FlexNow is required.

Career day for bioscientists

Career day for bioscientists (1 LP)

All-day event with short presentations on career opportunities.

The career day is organised by the Faculty of Biology and announced in the VVZ and on notice boards.

The next career day is expected to take place on 10 October 2025.

Registration in FlexNow and a signature on a morning and afternoon list, which will be handed out on the career day, are required for registration.

Alumni Talks, Faculty Lectures/Colloquia, RIGeL Lecutre Series

Attendance of eight lectures is recognised as a career-oriented course in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in Biology (1 CP).

The following lectures can be recognised:

- RIGeL Lecutre Series - Current Concepts in Biology (single lectures); see SPUR

Form for the recognition of lectures - download! (opens in a new window). (This PDF is not accessible); have the form signed after each lecture by a representative of the Almuni-Talks team or the organiser of the lecture / colloquium. After attending eight lectures, send the completed form to the degree programme coordinator (elisabeth.brunner@ur.de) for booking in Flexnow.

For lectures that take place via Zoom, the names of the Zoom participants who attended the entire lecture via Zoom will be noted. Therefore, please register in Zoom with your full name and enter the lecture in the form. When you hand in the form later, it will be checked whether you took part in the event via Zoom.

The attendance of eight lectures can be booked a maximum of twice in FlexNow in the Bachelor's and Master's programmes. Of course, you can start attending lectures in the Bachelor's programme and then submit the complete form for registration in the Master's programme.

Supervision of courses/tutorials

CPs can be awarded for the supervision of courses/tutorials:

  • Cytology and anatomy of plants - 2 CP
  • Cytology and anatomy of animals - 2 CP
  • Morphology and systematics of plants - 2 CP
  • Morphology and systematics of animals - 2 CP
  • Compulsory elective practicals (animal physiology, plant physiology, genetics, microbiology) - 1 CP each
  • Biochemistry lab for medical students - 1 LP
  • Biology course for medical students - 1 CP
  • Experimental laboratory for pupils - 1 CP
  • Chemistry tutorials - 2 CP

Work placements and vocational training

Work placements in organisations that employ biologists:

  • Companies (e.g. biotechnology companies; e.g. in the BIOPARK),
  • Authorities (e.g. in the field of nature conservation, Bavarian Academy for Nature Conservation and Landscape Management),
  • Research institutions (e.g. university hospital or other universities)
  • other institutions ( e.g. conservation centres; Greenpeace)
  • Vocational training (e.g. biological technical assistant or biology laboratory assistant) is recognised if it was completed no more than two years before the start of the course.

Activities as an SHK (student assistant) at a chairare not recognised .

Details on the internship certificate: Name of the intern, name and address of the institution, date and duration of the internship, brief description of the activity.

Credit points:

  • 2 CP per week (full-time; approx. 40 h per week)
  • 1 CP per week (part-time; approx. 20 hours per week)

A maximum of 6 CP are recognised for an internship.

Participation without own contribution = 1 CP.
Participation with additional preparation of an application and arrangement of an individual appointment to check the application documents = 2 CP.

All courses are recognised, except basic courses in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Register the course in Flexnow as part of the IT training programme. Course "scientific writing"

1 CP is awarded for the online course with certificate.

For the course with a certificate from the university, if a manuscript is also written, 2 CP are awarded.

The certificate for the "Scientific Writing" course can be recognised as an additional CP in the CUAT course "Academic writing for the Life Sciences" (Ms Braun) (information: Schreibberatung.Zsk@zsk.uni-regensburg.de).

Trade fairs / symposia

  • 1 CP is recognised for each trade fair or symposium attended.
  • Only trade fairs or symposia in the natural sciences are recognised.
  • If it is unclear whether a trade fair or symposium can be recognised, please contact the degree programme coordinator at elisabeth.brunner@ur.de.
  • Participation in digital trade fairs or symposia will also be recognised.
  • The following are recognised as proof
    • the admission ticket (print@home tickets) with an admission stamp from the trade fair
    • a list with your name and the organisations you wish to visit at the trade fair, with signatures from the respective trade fair stand.
    • a confirmation of participation in the symposium (possibly issued by the organiser)
    • confirmation of registration for digital trade fairs or symposia.

btS Regensburg

Biotechnological Student Initiative e. V. (btS)

The btS Regensburg organises company excursions, further education workshops and lecture evenings - link! (external link, opens in a new window)

Company excursions will be credited with 1 LP.

Continuing education workshops are booked with 1 or 2 CP, depending on their scope.

Lecture evenings can be entered in the form "Alumni Talks and Lectures/Colloquia of the Faculty".

  • Excursions in botany or zoology are subject-specific and are not recognised as a professional qualification.
  • Internships in research institutions (university hospital; other universities) are not recognised as professional internships.
