Prof. Dr. Johannsen worked as Research Associate at the Chair of Business Informatics 3 at the University of Regensburg from April 2006 to March 2011. As part of this, he completed his doctorate on the topic "Conception and evaluation of an approach to method integration in quality management" with summa cum laude.
He then held a position at the chair as a Postdoctorial Associate and habilitated with Venia Legendi on the topic "Development and improvement of business processes in business engineering" in 2015.
From 2015 to 2019, he held deputy professorships at the Department of Informatics and Data Science at the University of Regensburg and the University of Bremen.
