Chair for Business Informatics 3

Innovations in information technology are transforming the economy and society in a fundamental way. They open up new potential, but also present companies and individuals with complex challenges. Digitalisation, artificial intelligence (AI) and digital platforms are changing established forms of work, enabling cross-company, networked business processes, breaking down rigid silo structures and creating space for new, data-driven business models. These technological developments are also having an increasing impact on our everyday lives - for example through AI-based assistants, smart wearables and personalised digital services. The resulting data streams form a central basis for innovations in products and services and open up new opportunities for user-centred business strategies.

In this transformation, companies are faced with the task of making their structures flexible and agile without losing control over critical processes or their digital sovereignty. At the same time, the demands on users to utilise digital technologies in a competent, responsible and self-determined manner are increasing, particularly with regard to data sovereignty, transparency and participation.

At the Chair of Management Information Systems 3, we deal with precisely these issues: analysing, designing and evaluating effective IT solutions in the area of conflict between technological progress and the demand for digital sovereignty and self-determination. In our teaching, we therefore attach great importance to providing students with both methodological foundations and an understanding of the potential of new technologies.
