iSTEPS telc Program

As part of the iSTEPS project at the University of Regensburg, the iSTEPS telc program offers international students at the University of Regensburg the opportunity to take a telc German test at the B1, B2 or C1 level free of charge. The aim is to give students the opportunity to prove their German language skills with an internationally recognized German certificate. As part of iSTEPS, telc German certificates are usually offered at levels B1 and B2. If there is sufficient demand, additional examination dates for the telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule test can be arranged.

telc stands for “The European Language Certificates”. It is part of an internationally recognized system of European language examinations. It is fully aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). telc certificates are available in ten languages and for all language levels - including German as a foreign language.

The following test dates are scheduled for the winter semester 2025/26 at the Universit?t Regensburg test center:

Students enrolled in the following degree programs have the opportunity to apply for a telc examniation which is offered free of charge through the iSTEPS program at UR:

• Master Computational Science
• Master Ecology, Evolution, Conservation
• Master Economics
• Master English Linguistics
• Master European Studies
• Master European-American Studies
• Master Mathematics
• Master Physics
• Master Advanced Synthesis and Catalysis (SynCat)

Please note:

The option to participate in a telc examination free of charge through the iSTEPS program is only available to regular students of the above-mentioned degree programs and not to students in double degree programs.

As part of iSTEPS, telc German certificates are offered at levels B1 and B2. If there is sufficient demand, additional examination dates for the telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule test can be arranged.

telc Deutsch B1

The telc Deutsch B1 examination consists of a written and an oral examination.?The duration of the written exam is 2 hours and 30 minutes. The written exam is administered in a paper-based format and is structured as follows:

The oral exam is usually given in pairs. It lasts approximately 15 minutes. You will have 20 minutes to prepare before the oral exam begins. The oral exam can be taken on the same day as the written exam or on a different day.

telc Deutsch B2

The telc Deutsch B2 examination consists of a written and an oral examination.?The duration of the written exam is 2 hours and 30 minutes. The written exam is administered in a paper-based format and is structured as follows:

The oral exam is usually given in pairs. It lasts approximately 15 minutes. You will have 20 minutes to prepare before the oral exam begins. The oral exam can be taken on the same day as the written exam or on a different day.

telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule

The telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule examination consists of a written and an oral examination.?The duration of the written exam is 3 hours and 20 minutes, . The written exam is administered in a paper-based format and is structured as follows:

The oral exam is usually given in pairs. It lasts approximately 16 minutes. You will have 20 minutes to prepare before the oral exam begins. The oral exam can be taken on the same day as the written exam or on a different day.

As an eligible student admitted to the iSTEPS program, you are exempt from paying any fee. The telc examinations are free of charge for you.

However, please note: If you have been admitted to an examination and fail to attend without a valid excuse, you will be charged a examination fee of 100 euros. Illness is considered a valid excuse, but this must be documented by a medical certificate.

Eligible students can apply for a place on an examination by completing the application form below. Please note the registration deadlines.

• Admission to the iSTEPS telc program will be granted after the application deadline.
• If you have been admitted to an examination and fail to attend without a valid excuse, you will be charged a examination fee of 100 euros.
