2 x PhD Positions in Cognitive Psychology / Clinical Neuropsychology (65% TV-L E13)

Project Title: "To Do or Not to Do II: Principles and Neuroanatomical Correlates of Affordance-Based Decision-Making"
Funding Body: German Research Foundation (DFG)

We are seeking two PhD candidates (paid 65%, TV-L E13) to join our DFG-funded research project on affordance-based decision-making at the intersection of perception and Action in late fall/winter 2025.

About the Project

This experimental project investigates the cognitive and neuroanatomical foundations of decision-making processes related to affordances. The research integrates behavioral paradigms, virtual reality, and neuropsychological data (e.g., lesion-symptom mapping) to explore how affordance judgments are shaped, how they can be tested and how they can be trained.

Your Responsibilities

Conducting experimental research in the domain of perception and action
Designing and implementing experimental setups
Data acquisition, statistical analysis, and scientific writing
Use of virtual reality methods or analysis of neuroanatomical lesion data (depending on focus and skill set)

Your Profile

Master’s degree in Psychology or related field (completed successfully)
Basic programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB) or willingness to acquire them
Strong interest in basic research at the intersection of cognition and clinical neuropsychology
Team spirit and enthusiasm for collaborative work
Excellent command of written and spoken English

Desirable (but not mandatory)

Experience with virtual reality methods or neuroimaging techniques
Background in neuropsychology or cognitive neuroscience
