Project Title: "To Do or Not to Do II: Principles and Neuroanatomical Correlates of Affordance-Based Decision-Making"
Funding Body: German Research Foundation (DFG)

We are seeking two PhD candidates (paid 65%, TV-L E13) to join our DFG-funded research project on affordance-based decision-making at the intersection of perception and Action in late fall/winter 2025.

About the Project

This experimental project investigates the cognitive and neuroanatomical foundations of decision-making processes related to affordances. The research integrates behavioral paradigms, virtual reality, and neuropsychological data (e.g., lesion-symptom mapping) to explore how affordance judgments are shaped, how they can be tested and how they can be trained.

Your Responsibilities

  • Conducting experimental research in the domain of perception and action
  • Designing and implementing experimental setups
  • Data acquisition, statistical analysis, and scientific writing
  • Use of virtual reality methods or analysis of neuroanatomical lesion data (depending on focus and skill set)

Your Profile

  • Master’s degree in Psychology or related field (completed successfully)
  • Basic programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB) or willingness to acquire them
  • Strong interest in basic research at the intersection of cognition and clinical neuropsychology
  • Team spirit and enthusiasm for collaborative work
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English

Desirable (but not mandatory)

  • Experience with virtual reality methods or neuroimaging techniques
  • Background in neuropsychology or cognitive neuroscience
