Your path to a Double Degree
You will complete your degree in four semesters.
- Academic year 1: University of Regensburg - Basic training and first advanced courses.
- Academic year 2: UNC Charlotte - International perspectives and deepening of your economic knowledge.
Upon successful completion of your degree, you will receive two full Master's degrees - one from each university. This will open up excellent opportunities for you on the international job market, be it in research, consulting, international organisations or the private sector.

Study Plan and Specialisations
When studying a double Master's program, you must fulfil the requirements of both Master's degrees. The study program is designed in such a way that courses from both universities can be mutually credited. To ensure this, you choose one of two possible specializations.
Requirements for the two Master's degrees
- For the M.Sc. Economics degree at the University of Regensburg, you must complete a total of 120 ECTS. Details on the structure of the M.Sc. Economics can be found here.
- For the M.S. Economics degree at UNC Charlotte, you must complete a total of 30 credit hours with a grade point average of at least 3.0. Details on the structure of the M.S. Economics can be found here.
Tuition Fees
Double degrees students who begin their studies at the University of Regensburg pay semester fees at the University of Regensburg for both years.
Specialisations
To ensure smooth reciprocal crediting of courses, you choose one of two specialisations(Concentration):
- Quantitative Methods in Economics
- Quantitative Financial Economics

Specialization 1: "Quantitative Methods in Economics"
Here you will find an exemplary study plan with the specialization "Quantitative Methods in Economics". For the M.Sc. Economics at the University of Regensburg you must complete a total of 120 ECTS.
Year 1 (University of Regensburg)
Compulsory course programme for all students of the M.Sc. Economics (30 ECTS):
- Dynamic Macroeconomics
- Advanced Microeconomics
- Methods in Econometrics
In addition, at least the following three courses (18 ECTS):
- Time Series Econometrics or Applied Microeconometrics or Applied Data Science
- Quantitative Economics II
- Applied Financial Econometrics
Year 2 (UNC Charlotte)
Research module (30 ECTS):
- Thesis hours (Research Method I)
- Thesis hours (Research Method II)
- One of the elective courses listed below (as a seminar)
As well as at least three more of the following courses (18 ECTS):
- Financial Economic Theory
- Monetary and Financial Theory
- Applied Computational Economics
- Real Estate and Urban Economics
- Economic Analysis of Public Policy II
The remaining 24 ECTS must be completed in the free electives in accordance with the rules of the M.Sc. in Economics.
Specialization 2: "Quantitative Financial Economics"
Here you will find an exemplary study plan with the specialization "Quantitative Financial Economics". For the M.Sc. Economics at the University of Regensburg, you must complete a total of 120 ECTS.
Year 1 (University of Regensburg)

- Financial Econometrics
As well as at least three more of the following courses (18 ECTS):
- Monetary and Financial Theory
- Applied Computational Economics
- Real Estate and Urban Economics
- Economic Analysis of Public Policy II
- Fixed Income Securities and Credit Risk
The remaining 18 ECTS must be completed in the free electives according to the rules of the M.Sc. in Economics.
Application
In order to receive a double degree from the University of Regensburg and UNC Charlotte, you must first apply for the M.Sc. Economics program at the University of Regensburg.
A selection phase for suitable students takes place in the winter semester. Details and dates will be announced in the compulsory courses of the M.Sc. Economics program.
