AFRER

Center for African Real Estate Research

In comparison with the established countries there is a big deficit in real estate research in Africa. AfRER's aims are to transfer knowledge and experience and to adapt them to the special conditions in African countries. The focus lies on the improvement of market transparency, the development of proper investment and finance vehicles and the introduction of the concept of sustainable buildings

The African Real Estate Research Competence Center (AfRER) is directed by Prof. Dr. Karl-Werner Schulte HonRICS, a retired Professor of Real Estate, and Dr. Moses Kusiluka, BEOS Visiting Professor for African Real Estate. BEOS develops and manages mixed-use industrial properties that serve as office, production, services and logistic sites.

Visiting Fellows are Dr. Sophia Kongela and Dr. Jonas Hahn. The AfRER Team is accomplished by

  • African doctoral students and PhD graduates
  • German doctoral students with Africa-related topics
  • IREBS students who write or have written a Master or Bachelor Thesis on Africa-related topics

who contribute to the research.

The African doctoral students receive scholarships from DAAD (externer Link, ?ffnet neues Fenster) Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (German Academic Exchange Service). The team also engages in real estate education, to establish student exchange between IREBS and real estate departments at universities in Africa.
