This conference seeks to explore the paths that queer theater companies, directors, and playwrights across the world have taken throughout the twentieth- and twenty-first centuries to speak queerness to power against normative orders of gender and sexuality. Darkened theater rooms across the planet have been one site of many, where queerness has come to be negotiated vis-à-vis authoritarian regimes, conservative governments, and religious ideologies. This conference sets out to map such theater spaces across the globe, historicize and contextualize them, while also examining their generative potential for critical theory.?Further information

This collaborative workshop is designed to develop transregional approaches in cultural studies, in particular the field of Romance and Slavic studies. It evolved around research interests at the Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU) and the University of Regensburg (UR). We set out to examine the bonds between people and places, in particular, we are interested in comparative research about landscapes and cityscapes as well as their manifold mediatized representations, i.e. concrete local arenas as perceived by humans and addressed in their communicative processes. They can be found in literature, film, theater, social media, video games etc. We understand those landscapes not only as outcomes of cognitive procedures; what is of no less importance for our research is their affective quality (Clough 2007, Berberich et al. 2015) – the physical, bodily, maybe emotional reaction a landscape evokes.

Da es bislang keinen systematischen ?berblick queerer DDR-Literatur gibt, will diese Tagung einen ersten Schritt für eine solche ?bersicht machen. Jede Literatur aus der DDR, die von schwul-lesbisch-bisexuellem oder unbestimmtem Begehren erz?hlt, kommt dafür in Betracht. Genauso sind Geschichten von Weiblichkeit, Mutterschaft, sexueller Identit?t, K?rpern (z.B. bei Roswitha Geppert, Helga K?nigsdorf, Christine Wolter, Gabriele Eckert oder Waltraud Lewin uvm.), von M?nnlichkeit (bspw. bei Thomas Brasch, Ronald M. Schernikau uvm), Sex, sowie Inter- und Transgeschlechtlichkeit und Perspektiven des Nicht-Identischen willkommen. Neben der inhaltlichen Ebene ist die Tagung auch an queeren ?sthetiken und Schreibweisen der DDR-Literatur interessiert: Welches Schreiben, welche literarische Produktion agiert jenseits normativer ?sthetiken? Welche polymorph-perversen Formen und ?sthetiken gab es in der DDR-Literatur, die bislang nicht im Kanon queerer, schwul-lesbischer Literatur auftauchen? Welche Alltagserfahrungen erz?hlt die Literatur der DDR?

Description

Albania is currently undergoing a dynamic development and is high on Germany's foreign policy agenda. The international symposium aims to discuss new perspectives on Albanian Studies at the University of Regensburg (UR) and beyond. It comprises the three thematic areas Linguistics, Literature and Culture. The symposium is integrated into the area studies activities at UR.

The overarching topic of the symposium is “The replication of concepts across language barriers (Travelling concepts)”. Replicated or travelling concepts are ideas or cultural constructs that traverse linguistic and cultural barriers, transforming as they are rendered into different languages. Through translation, these concepts adapt to new contexts, acquiring nuances and interpretations specific to each language and culture because the basis for this replication is a creative process of ‘interlingual identification of linguistic subsystems’. The replication of concepts facilitates the dissemination of knowledge and fosters cross-cultural understanding by bridging linguistic divides. However, it also poses challenges, as nuances, cultural connotations, and context can be lost or altered in this process. One such example could be the notion of ‘corruption’ which first appeared in Albanian dictionaries in the 50ies. However, the meaning of the Albanian lexeme?korrupsion?is not identical to the corresponding lexemes in West European languages.? A?s a second example we might refer to?Realizmi socialist?which is a replication of the Russian term?sociаlisti?eskij realizm/socrealizm. Both in art and in literature?Realizmi socialist?developed its features specific to the Albanian context.

Leading experts from the universities of Tirana, Prishtina, LMU, HU Berlin and Charles University will present their research related to travelling concepts.

The symposium is organised by the Institute of Slavonic Studies in collaboration with the SeeFfield Project (https://seeffield.app.uni-regensburg.de/). The language of the event is English (with some translations into Albanian).
