Conference: School and schooling in a migration society

General and subject-specific didactical perspectives

Understandings of belonging, ways of life, and collective memories have multiplied and developed hybrid forms, among others due to transnational migrations, and become the subject of social debate. This raises the question of the appropriateness and validity of the content conveyed in school and teaching, as well as the question of the appropriateness and effectiveness of the forms of mediation. Referring to keywords such as heterogeneity, diversity, intersectionality and inclusion, but also in dealing with discrimination and racism, these questions have been addressed repeatedly in recent pedagogical and didactical discourses:

• Do school and schooling in a society shaped by migration need new contents and forms of mediation?
• How can school and schooling under conditions of migration society meet the needs and requirements of the students?
• How can schoolchildren be adequately prepared for the requirements of the present and future in a diverse society and a globalized world from the perspective of various subjects?

The conference in Regensburg creates a space for the interdisciplinary exchange on and discussion of these questions. It provides impulses for didactics in a migration society with regard to content as well as to questions of mediation, learning arrangements and methods. Both general and subject-specific didactical perspectives will be taken into consideration.
