B.A. "British Studies" (Anglistik) at the University of Regensburg
Overview
"British Studies" comprises the literatures and cultures of Great Britain and Ireland (including Postcolonial Studies). The programme is part of the combinatory Bachelor of Arts (6 semesters, 180 ECTS) and can be studied as the First Major Subject (90 ECTS + the B.A. thesis, 10 ECTS), as the Second Major Subject (60 ECTS) or as a Minor Subject (30 ECTS).
?nderung Basismodul Kulturwissenschaft ab SoSe 2025
Ab Sommersemester 2025 werden die Vorlesung IBIS und das Seminar BIC durch eine neue Vorlesung, "Society and Culture: UK" (2 SWS, 5 ECTS), ersetzt.
Aus organisatorischen Gründen kann die Vorlesung "Society and Culture: UK" allerdings erst ab dem Wintersemester 2025/26 angeboten werden.
Was bedeutet das für Sie?
Sie haben die Vorlesung IBIS schon abgelegt, das Seminar BIC aber noch nicht:
Das Seminar BIC wird noch bis einschlie?lich Sommersemester 2026 angeboten.
Sie besuchen derzeit die Vorlesung IBIS:
Wenn Sie die Klausur bestehen besuchen Sie danach bis Sommersemester 2026 das Seminar BIC.
Sollten Sie die Klausur in diesem Semester nicht bestehen, wird es innerhalb von sechs Monaten eine Wiederholungsklausur geben (der Termin wird rechtzeitig vorher bekannt gegeben). Die Vorlesung IBIS wird allerdings nicht nochmals angeboten!
Sollten Sie auch die Wiederholungsklausur nicht bestehen, k?nnen Sie ab Wintersemester 2025/26 die Vorlesung "Society and Culture: UK" besuchen; diese wird Ihnen dann als ?quivalent anerkannt.
Alternativ steht es Ihnen jetzt noch frei, sich in FlexNow von der Klausur wieder abzumelden und anstelle von IBIS & BIC die neue Vorlesung "Society and Culture: UK" zu besuchen. Die neue Vorlesung wird allerdings erstmals im Wintersemester 2025/26 angeboten.

Objectives
First Major Subject (BA-Fach)
Graduates have a sound knowledge of the cultures, literatures and history of Great Britain and Ireland. They have in-depth content-related and theoretical knowledge and methodological skills in selected areas of English/British Studies (including Postcolonial Studies) in their entire historical scope, cultural diversity and medial and material variety. They are able to apply this knowledge to the analysis and interpretation of different forms of cultural expression and their cultural and historical contexts. In particular, they are able to work on a more extensive topic of British literature and/or cultural studies as part of their BA thesis and present it adequately in English.
Graduates possess active and passive language skills at level C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and are proficient in techniques of oral and written presentation in English.
Second Major Subject
Graduates have a basic knowledge of the cultures, literatures and history of Great Britain and Ireland. They are able to apply cultural studies theories and methods to the analysis of various types of texts, materials and media, and have content-related and theoretical knowledge as well as sound methodological skills in key areas of English/British Studies (including Postcolonial Studies).
Graduates have active and passive language skills at level C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and are familiar with techniques of oral and written presentation in English.
Minor Subject
Graduates have an overview of the cultures, literatures and history of Great Britain. They are able to apply theories and methods of literary and cultural studies to the analysis and interpretation of different types of texts, materials and media, and they have English language skills at level C1 (productive) or C2 (receptive) of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
