TEACHING

Here you can find the current teaching offer on SPUR.

Dear Students,

For all those who are planning to write their thesis (or complete their orientation internship) in the coming year and would like to gain insights into research with infants and toddlers, we currently offer the following topics:

1. How do infants learn to categorize their environment early on, and what neural processes are involved?
In this project, you can assist us with EEG data collection involving infants and toddlers aged 2 to 11 months and, if you wish, gain insights into EEG data analysis.
(If interested and for further information, please contact Marlena Baldauf at marlena.baldauf@ur.de or me at moritz.koester@ur.de.)

2. How does the predictability of maternal behavior influence (social) cognition and emotional development in Uganda?
In this project, you can support us with data coding and analysis of a dataset from Uganda and gain insights into cross-cultural research.
(If interested and for further information, please contact Maria Garzón directly at mariajose.garzonj@gmail.com.)

3. How do parenting behavior and early cognitive development differ across cultures?
We have already collected data from parent–child interactions in Nigeria, Brazil, India, Turkey, and Germany, and are now planning additional data collection at new sites, particularly in rural Bavaria (existing local contacts are an advantage), Norway, and Brazil.
Within this project, short research stays abroad are also possible for particularly interested students.
(For further information, please contact me directly at moritz.koester@ur.de.)

4. When is a movement perceived as an action, and when is an action perceived as intentional?
In a pilot study with adults, we aim to create stimuli that differentiate between movement, action, and intention, and test these in an experimental setting.
(This study is planned in collaboration with Prof. Angelika Lingnau. If interested and for further information, please contact me directly at moritz.koester@ur.de.)

Each project can accommodate 1–2 theses.
