Dr. Laura Niebling

Managing Director of DIMAS

Laura Niebling is a media scholar (Dr phil.) and has been the managing director of DIMAS since October 2024. Her work focuses on the history and theory of post-digital media and communication cultures.

Her habilitation project ‘Caught in the Net - A Media and Communication History of Digital Medicine in the Federal Republic of Germany, 1970-2000’ is currently being finalised. She works primarily on post-digital (platform) cultures, on the cultural history of data protection and in the field of medical communication. As a member of the DAS|LAB at DIMAS, she aims to strengthen the role of media studies in digital area studies. She is also co-chair of the German-speaking Netzwerk Meme Studies and, as co-editor of the handbook ‘Digital Media and Methods’, involved in the methodological development of digital media research.
