In our group we are interested in spatio-temporal control of mRNA translation during plant development and differentiation. Additionally, we try to discover molecular mechanisms controlling pollen tube growth through female sporophytic tissue.

We are specialised on microscopy based approaches. For example, we apply a variety of fluorescence based technics such as FRAP, FRET and FLIM. Furthermore, we are specialised on a variety of RNA in?situ hybridization (ISH) approaches such as whole mount ISH (WISH), fluorescent (F-) WISH and single molecule (sm)FISH to analyse cellular and sub-cellular mRNA distribution patterns. Other standard molecular methods are frequently used in our lab to unravel the molecular mechanism and biological function of a gene. E.g. different cloning strategies (Gateway, GoldenGate, classical cloning), protein purification for functional studies and immunoprecipitation (IP) as well as co-IP, generating mutants using CRISPR/Cas, RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP).

In this project we frequently have opportunities to engage students at various levels of their studies into our research activities.
